Lesson #6
ANALYZING THEME in "All Summer in a Day"
#1 Read the story -- "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury |
#2 This story is a little tricky. Take a few moments to analyze the story for all of its parts. |
#3 Now that you understand the story. It is time to take a deeper look--to analyze this story for its theme. Keep in mind that multiple themes can be found in this piece, but you should find the one that stands out most to you! |
#4 Hurray! Writing a theme is the hardest step. This step is tricky too. You will turn that theme into your thesis statement. This thesis must include the title, the author, the word "theme," the theme you have written, and soon you will add the points that will help you to prove your theme is the best. |
#5 Next, you will do the detective work and reread the text as many times as necessary to find the evidence in the text that supports your theme. |
#6 Since you have already done all of the tough work, and since you have completed this step multiple times before, this step will be a cinch. You will be taking all of your hard work--your thesis statement and all of the evidence you have uncovered--and you will organize it into a proper literary essay using the outline provided. |
