Failure and Respect
This page offers insight into the culture of Mrs. Powers' English / Language Arts class. Prepare to fail and plan to learn respect - for yourself, others, and your education. It may sound like an odd combination of terms on which to base a class, but these two terms will help us to become people who will succeed. First, listen to our class theme song below:

For the next week or so, we will be learning the meaning of RESPECT and gaining a detailed explanation of our goals and expectations in each area of our ELA learning for the year. Within this time, we will also take our GRADE and MAP assessments and complete our beginning of the year writing sample to gauge where we all are in our growth and learning.
What is RESPECT?
R-respectToday we will create a class definition of respect that will remain our motto for the year.
|
E-each otherWe will learn how to lift others up and pour into them instead of dipping from their buckets.
|
S-selfTo be successful, we need to build self-confidence and be willing to try and fail. True self-esteem comes as a fruit of trying a difficult task, struggling through hardships, and finally accomplishing that task. That is when we truly see our self-worth in our hard work and accomplishment. That will be our goal for this year -- working hard and accomplishing difficult challenges!
|
P-propertyToday we will discover all of the resources available in the classroom and online with two scavenger hunts. Parents can participate to learn about ELA also.
