THE THESIS STATEMENT
Writing a THESIS STATEMENT
The THESIS STATEMENT is the most important sentence of the essay. It must be perfect. It is the first sentence you should write and the last sentence you should tweak.
This lesson will guide you through the STEPS of writing a thesis statement. Plus it will teach you how to find the BEST EVIDENCE to use as your points. It will also teach you to write those points in PARALLEL STRUCTURE using FORMAL LANGUAGE.
STEP #1 - Writing your TOPIC and your OPINION of that topic
Often, your teacher will assign you a topic. Then you just need to decide upon your opinion of that topic to begin your thesis statement. Remember that you need to be able to prove your opinion with points/reasons.

STEP #2 - Choosing the MOST POWERFUL EVIDENCE to support your opinion.
This step is a bit more difficult because you do not simply want to use any old evidence to prove your point. You want to use the most powerful evidence possible. Before you can complete your thesis statement, you must consider what information will offer you the most powerful evidence to prove your opinion.
